The Children and Adolescent Program

  • The proposed program herein is a Children and Adolescent Program entitled "Cap."  It is designed to decrease risk factors in youth through small group sessions with major emphasis on enhancement of academic/career development skills.

Youth Leadership Academy

  • The Youth Academic Program (YAP) is a preventive project that is designed to concentrate on decreasing and eliminating risk factors associated with school failure and violence among youth age ranging from five to twenty-one.  The program objectives are to provide academic counseling, recreation, cultural, leadership, employment and job search/placement activities.

Youth Leadership Program

  • Unlike the Youth Leadership Academy, this program is designed to equip youth ages seven to eighteen with the practical skills needed to become community leaders.  These skills will cultivate a productive, self-fulfilled and achievement-oriented attitude that will continue on to adulthood.
  • The goal of YLP is to establish a Disproportion Minority Contact program model that reduces juvenile detention among minority youth within selective Miami-Dade communities.  It is designed to address issues such as school drop-out, unemployment, and teen violence.
  • The program empowers youth people by providing Life-skill Training, Tutorial Service, Community Service Projects and Parent/Child workshops.
  • In addition, program participants receive training on a broad range of technology and telecommunication topics.  They learn to apply specific computer skills in Internet, word processing and spreadsheets in combination with critical thinking, reading, and writing skills.

    Anti-Violence Summer Camp

    • The Youth Leadership Project includes a summer camp that focus on preventing youth gun violence.  YLP provides positive alternatives through an intensive summer camp program targeted at high-risk youth and youthful ex-offenders.
    • The YLP Summer Camp objectives include:
      • Providing a safe haven for youth during summer months and other peak times when youth crime occurs (ie after school);
      • To teach youth how to recognize catalysts for youth violent confrontations;
      • To engage youth in an anti-gun initiative that educates youth about gun violence;
      • Teach youth how to resolve conflict in their schools, with friends, at home, and within the community without resorting to violence;

     Summer Camp 2008 Schedule

             The summer camp program is a six weeks program with anti-gun/violence activities designed to concentrate on gun safety education and legal consequences for using guns when committing crimes.
